Celebrating the Menai at Garth Pier
We were thrilled to be part of the fantastic Discover the Menai event at Bangor’s Garth Pier back in May, celebrating the Menai Strait and the people who care for it. With sunshine and beautiful views it was a great day.
Organised by students from Bangor University’s School of Ocean Sciences, the event brought marine science to life with live catsharks, hermit crabs, starfish, and hands-on displays, including dolphin and porpoise bones. MSPF coordinator Oisín joined the day with the North Wales Rivers Trust, sharing information about local wildlife, water quality, and how we can all help protect this iconic waterway. Children got stuck into marine-themed activities, while many visitors shared their own stories and hopes for the future of the Strait.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along—your enthusiasm reminds us just how much the Menai Strait means to our communities. Events like this are a brilliant way to connect, learn, and celebrate the special places on our doorstep.
Stay tuned for more ways to get involved—and keep loving the Menai!
