Creating a new Bioregion for Wales

About the Project

A new model for restoring nature, supporting communities and attracting investment across one connected landscape.

Mountains to the sea

The Menai Strait Partnership Forum is a bioregional partnership established by the North Wales Rivers Trust and the Menai Strait Fishery Order Management Association (MSFOMA). A bioregion recognises that nature, people and place are interconnected. Rather than working within organisational or political boundaries, it brings together everyone with a stake in the Menai Bioregion to build a shared understanding of its health, coordinate action across the catchment, and create a resilient future for one of Wales’ most important marine environments.
  • Restore Nature
Working at landscape scale to recover rivers, habitats and wildlife.
  • Green Blended Finance
Unlocking public and private investment to fund long-term environmental restoration.
  • Protected Status
Working towards UNESCO Biosphere designation to recognise and celebrate this internationally important landscape.
  • One Partnership
Communities, businesses, landowners and public bodies working together for one shared future.
  • Connected Waters Rights
A legal framework to protect our shared future.

State of the Strait

Understanding the health of our bioregion

The State of the Strait Report brings together the latest evidence on the health of the Menai Strait and its connected river catchments. It provides a shared baseline for understanding the challenges we face and the opportunities for restoring nature, supporting communities and guiding future investment.
