Menai Strait Partnership Public Forum

22 May 2026

Our first public forum of the year!

We were delighted to hold our first public forum of the year at Storiel in Bangor.

A huge thank you to our fantastic speakers for their engaging and thought-provoking presentations.

Marine and Freshwater project Coordinator from North Wales Rivers Trust Emma Bonham opened the event with a look ahead for the MSPF.

Emma focused on the need for greater monitoring of the habitats, wildlife and water quality within the Menai Strait and shared plans for long term passive monitoring and citizen science opportunities.

Emer McCoy opened the forum with a talk on the Seafood Trail Cymru. Emer, a researcher at Bangor University’s School of Ocean Sciences, works to support the Welsh fisheries, aquaculture, and seafood sector.

Seafood Trail Cymru was developed as part of this work to help connect people with locally caught seafood and highlight where it can be purchased. Be sure to explore the Seafood Trail to discover seafood near you.

Our second speaker, Rhianna Parry, introduced the Connecting Conwy [project], a plan for seascape-scale recovery of coastal habitats in and around Conwy Bay and the Menai Strait SAC.

As a truly co-created project, the talk led to valuable discussions around community involvement and the long-term recovery of marine habitats that support both biodiversity and coastal communities.

Ffion Mitchell-Langford from the Marine Conservation Society then explored key challenges and opportunities along the [Atlantic coast] for building a connected ecological network of community-led regeneration projects at a seascape scale.

Ffion highlighted how MCS works with communities, including establishing community delivery partnerships.

The afternoon concluded with lively and dynamic discussions on the future direction of the forum, opportunities for collaboration, and the importance of knowledge sharing.

Feedback on monitoring plans was discussed and will help inform the strategy moving forward.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success.
